What to Expect + FAQ

The most important thing to know? You’ll be in great hands throughout every step of your health journey with Cook Community Clinic. Our quality of care is uncompromising; it’s the same level of knowledge and professionalism that you would encounter at any other healthcare facility.

Can anyone access care at Cook Community Clinic?

Our mission focuses on uninsured residents in Mecklenburg and southern Iredell counties whose household incomes do not exceed 250% of the federal poverty level. We are a place of hope for anyone who meets our basic requirements.

Can I just show up during operating hours to receive care?

We require an eligibility screening for new patients and for existing patients who need to renew their eligibility. If you qualify, we’ll set up an appointment at that time.

Do I have to pay?

We do ask for a small donation at the time of your appointment, based on your income, so that we can continue to provide affordable care to uninsured residents.

What if I can’t afford a medication you prescribe?

Many of our patients qualify for NC MedAssist’s Free Pharmacy Program, which provides hundreds of prescription and non-prescription medications at no cost to patients.

Will I be seen by actual doctors?

We’re fortunate to have highly skilled physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other extraordinary providers on staff. As you would at any other healthcare facility, you’ll meet with a fully qualified provider to care for your needs.

Why do I have to provide so much information?

Cook Community Clinic was created to serve those who fall through the cracks between Medicaid and the ability to pay for health insurance – often the working poor. Much thought has gone into our eligibility guidelines. With limited resources, we rely on this information to enable us to assist as many community members as possible.

What if I don’t qualify but still need medical attention?

If it’s an immediate need, we will urge you to seek emergency services. Otherwise, we’ll try to help you connect with a health provider who may be a better fit.

Financial support from donors enables us to provide medical care to the most vulnerable in our community.

I am so glad I was introduced to Cook Community Clinic in 2011. I had no insurance coverage and I got the same treatment as if I was a million dollar patient. The atmosphere is awesome with such wonderful staff from the front desk to nurses and Doctors. I feel real good about this clinic.

The programs offered by this clinic have not only changed my life, but they have impacted those around me who I love and care about. I feel confident about fighting diabetes, and with the team at CCC supporting me, I feel stronger and more educated.

The clinic is not a patient mill, rather it is a place where the patient has the time to talk about current issues and the clinical staff is able to guide you to the right path. As my time as a patient at CCC comes to an end, I am only hopeful that I can receive this kind of care going forward.

About two years ago, I was in need of healthcare and I did not have health insurance…I did my research and realized Cook Community Clinic was close to my house so I called immediately. The staff treated me so kindly and I felt like I was in a private health care office. My health needs were treated by awesome physicians and since then I have been telling others. Times are hard these days, but a person’s health should not be compromised.

I didn’t know what to expect from the clinic, but was very pleasantly surprised at the friendly and caring atmosphere. It was so wonderful to be treated in such a respectful and dignified way. Large hospitals and other health facilities should take a lesson from Cook Community Clinic!
