HUNTERSVILLE – The graduating class of Leadership Lake Norman proved themselves to be leaders, skilled collaborators and hands-on doers. This group of motivators, planners, designers and thinkers came together to tackle a project directly benefiting the Huntersville community. Leadership LKN is a program of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.
Led by the initiative of classmate Sarah Porter, executive director of Cook Community Clinic, the class identified a much-needed rehabilitation project at the clinic itself.
Cook Community Clinic, a nonprofit providing healthcare to the uninsured, needed a facelift for its entryway and landscaping. The ambitious one-day project included replacing rotting benches and flower boxes, building new, handcrafted replacements, planting fresh perennials and giving the Clinic’s entrance a clean and welcoming makeover.
The true power of the Leadership class was demonstrated in their collaborative spirit.
From organizing and delegating tasks to building, designing, painting and even getting their hands dirty with the landscaping. Every member played a crucial role. Teamwork encompassed everything – acquiring supplies, planning the logistics and bringing the vision to life.
Participants in the project included Andy Yates, Arturo Ramos, Bailey Sigler, Jaime Lane, Brad McMillian, Ryan Marshall, Debbie Daniels, Heather Maloney, Tyler Medlin, Jessica Medlin, Kevin Ellis, Lauren Ewald, Linda Wahlberg, Lindsey Gordon, Micheal Figaro, Natasha House, Rox Burhans, Sarah Porter, Shannon Peters, Shaun Wittenburg, Simon El Bey and Kristen Reavis.
